Worldwide we decide that the beginning of a new year will represent changes in our lives, ones that will see a brand new us emerge as we shed our bad habits and try to replace them with good.
However, many of us lose sight of our goals and it is not because we lack determination, it is usually because we try to change too much, too quickly, or see that the 1st of January is the only day that it is possible to begin this change.
Here’s An Example Of A Possible Situation:
James, a sales manager for a large retail outlet was given the additional responsibility of finding new staff for the firm on top of his already busy work schedule. He soon began to find that he was working increasingly longer hours, and as he struggled to keep up with demands his pursuit to get in better shape.
Deciding enough was enough; on New Year’s Eve, James reflected on his year past and came to the conclusion that he needed to make more time for himself, therefore his New Year’s Resolution became exactly this.
How can James and the many other people who make a New Year’s Resolution do so without it adding to their daily stress?
Here’s A Solution:
Strive to find one interest that is outside your usual daily activities and that you love, not several that you like, as this will keep your enthusiasm at an optimum level. Always commit to your goal and work toward it step-by-step; don’t try to do it all at once, otherwise you will find it overwhelming. Above all, make your goals realistic; remembering that if you renege on your commitment, use the following Monday to begin all over again as your new year can start on whatever day you choose.
An excellent way to keep to your goal, while making sure you’re staying motivated and progressively excited about that which you desire, is to make sure you’re staying on track. To follow through with your goal and gauge your success by the results you see and feel is empowering!
Here’s A Tip:
Engaging in Fitness, Outdoor Activities and any hobby you are passionate about, is one of the best forms of therapy to overcome stressors in life. Whether these are minor or major situations, trying any of these forms of stress relief will greatly reduce your stress as well as boost your self-esteem and confidence.
For Example- James’ one love was music and as a once accomplished drummer he decided to invest in a new set of drums and take up advanced drumming lessons. This greatly improved his overall outlook and benefited him both personally and professionally with him being more motivated, energetic and creative.
