As you are well aware of, the fitness industry in inundated with too much stuff. Too many fitness programs, too many self proclaimed fitness experts, way too many gimmicks and all around total bull shit. Excuse my language, but if I'm feeling overwhelmed by it all, and I can only imagine what you people, the ones who rely on experts and information must be feeling.
The online marketing gurus call the Internet, the information super-highway. Some have referred to it as the Information Age. Well, there is just too much information and worse, 90% of it is nonsense. We've gotten way past the point of information overload. You see this everyday in all the spam that clutters your inbox. The self proclaimed experts send out cute emails, acting as if they care, as they so desperately want to build up their opt-in lists and create pseudo relationships using cookie cutter robotic rapport building tactics. Do they think that we’re all that stupid folks
Well they can keep referring to these online times as the Information Age, but I don’t buy into any of it. I'm only concerned with getting more involved with developing real relationships with people. I want to connect with people on deeper levels that can only be done by really getting to know people and not through BS.
Building relationships like this means finding out what your clients really want and need and then taking the time necessary to develop the products they want to exact spec. This type of online relationship building is referred to as the Recommendation Age. This is when real experts (Established professionals and not fly-by-niters) provide tested, proven & authenticated material that is derived from context and analysis.
I refuse to play games or become a victim myself of the game players AKA scammers. I’ve been through too much and I’ve been played around with too many times to count. Not to toot my own horn, but I am one of the top experts in the fitness industry and I received this distinction not by my own crowning, but because my systems have literally helped millions of people. My books have now been in the offline (Barnes & Noble, Borders, Walden Books, etc.) marketplace for a decade and to this day, continue to be best sellers.
Here’s a fact that I was blown away by: Statistics show that it can take up to 6 years for even a seasoned writer to get published and even if they do manage to get a publishing deal, they will often become part of the statistic that has proven that 98% of books in the bookstores just don’t sell. That’s right. Only about 2% of the thousands of books in your local bookstores even sell. If I had known this, I’m not sure that I would have even tried getting published – It’s like being defeated before you even begin the fight. This is in and of itself a lesson about sometimes just doing it and not allowing others to negatively influence you. If you have a dream to get published, just do it!
As far as my own success, you might think that I’m proud and you’d be SO right. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to become a successful writer, but don’t be fooled, I was told to give up before I even started and I had to bust my ass to get where I’m at!
If I let those awful statistics hold me back, I wouldn’t be releasing my new book, “Alpha Male Challenge” in the Spring of 2009. Even during this economic slump, I believe in myself so much, that I know that the book will become the best selling men’s fitness book in history – Mark my words!
I am however saddened and feel terrible for those aspiring writers who are sold dreams about getting their manuscript published. This is usually not their fault, but the fault of the self proclaimed idiot marketers who look at them as prey, selling them promises that they just can’t back up. The Internet is especially filled with these leaches.
These are tough times for everyone, but that doesn’t make it right for them to survive by any means necessary. The only ones who usually make money from the courses promising to get you published and help you sell a million copies of your book are the ones who sell the get published products.
The same holds true for the fitness industry. Most of these fitness gurus preach a whole lot of hog wash and practice little or none of what they profess. Look at them and you’ll see for yourself – They look like crap. I’m blown away at how they manage to get people to buy in to their products or even worse buy into them as people who they depend on for expertise.
My clients make comments to me frequently about how they are surprised that I practice what I preach. Most of them have watched me train when I wasn’t aware of it (When I train, I’m off in my own Zone) and they were almost shocked to see me doing similar types of training that I have them doing. They’ll say things like, “Wow, you really live by what you teach!” When I first began hearing comments like this, I was taken back by them. I thought that they should have already known this – That they would have demanded that I know my product inside and out – My training expertise is my product and if I don’t know it, how could they ever expect to make extraordinary changes to their body’s & lives
To be a REAL expert, you must live by your words and the expertise you deliver. Otherwise you are nothing but a faulty brand and faulty brands either hurt people or eventually disappear. Good Riddance!
