This is one of the most important long-term goal you can have.  In terms of general exercise many people think of goals in terms of weight loss, and while this may be effective early on in your exercise, it will not be a good goal after you are building muscle.

At first you will very likely lose weight. When your body is in the ultimate physical condition, defined by me as lower levels of body fat, a lean and sculpted body and great overall health, you will notice that you will either stay the same weight or may actually weigh a little more.  This is because muscle weighs more than fat.

Programs that only focus on weight loss will fail because the weight may drop but you are not building muscle.  Muscle burns fat and acts as a fire by which fat will be consumed in your body.  If the weight loss occurs without muscle built as well then the weight will likely come back once the diet is over.

So, focus on your physique and not just on how much weight you are losing.  Your goal is to have tight and toned muscles, not to have the scales register lower. Wouldn’t you rather lose fat than “lose weight”? Weight loss can include muscle & water – These are things that you don’t want to “lose”.

Your goal is to have your clothes fit better, not to brag about how much weight you lost.  Your goal is to be a healthy individual, not to try unhealthy behaviors in order to lose as much weight as possible.

So exercise on focusing on your physique only.  Do not concern yourself with weight issues so much.  Your goal is the ultimate physique and this is for the long-term.  If you do not meet your goal at the set out date, then still keep the goal.  Do not give up!  Just make another goal that is more attainable, and meet that goal then once again pursue the goal that you did not meet.  By doing this you will keep your confidence.

Tomorrow I will tell you about how to most effectively make positive changes by changing your lifestyle.

Keep Going!
