One of the most common injuries for a person working out with weights is tendonitis or joint soreness. This is usually because strain is put on the bones and connective tissue and/or you are experiencing what are referred to as, overuse injuries.

In order to relieve this situation, there are some things that you can do. In my opinion, ice is the best way to nurture strained and overused injuries. This of course may be supplemented with other helpful methods, such as, physical therapy, massage therapy, chiropractic, etc.

There are also certain supplements that you can take, which have been shown to help reduce joint and connective tissue pain. Things like Glucosamine and gelatin have been found to soothe joint pain by stimulating cartilage growth. One of the best ways to get these chemicals in your body is through Jell-O.  So, add Jell-O to your diet in order to prevent any joint or bone injuries.

If you suffer from more tendon related or other connective tissue injuries, I highly recommend a supplement called Super Cissus. I am not paid or in any way compensated to endorse this product. I have witnessed the results with my own clients and I swear by it for helping with my own chronic tendonitis. There were several exercises that I had to stop performing for years due to tendonitis. This miraculous herbal product has allowed me to do get back to the me that once was.

Another way to help relieve injuries and prevent injuries is by proper stretching.  It has long been stressed that stretching is one of the most important and beneficial parts of any exercise program, but it's also one of the most frequently ignored elements by thousands who participate in regular physical workouts.

For best results, it is recommended that you engage in a stretching routine that targets the entire body (legs, back, arms, groin, torso).  You should concentrate on those areas that you will use for your upcoming workout. For example, if you’re training legs today, you should focus more on stretching the leg muscles. If you’re training chest, then focus more on stretching the upper body. One rule that you should adhere to when it comes to stretching is which type of stretching you should do both prior to and following your workout.

Before a workout, you must be careful not to stretch a cold muscle. This is why I prescribe dynamic stretching (constant and smooth movement of the joint, through a full range of motion). Isometric stretching (when you stretch and hold for a certain amount of time) should not be performed before a workout, as your muscle are often cold and the intense stretch will actually relax the stretched muscles. You don’t want your muscles to relax just prior to training - you want to ready them for the upcoming intensity.

It is common for many exercise enthusiasts to incorporate stretching as part of their pre-workout routine to prevent pulled or torn muscles, but they could be doing more harm than good if the muscles are not warmed up first.  Fitness experts point out that stretching cold muscles increases the risk of injury to muscles, ligaments and delicate joints.

Since you could hurt yourself by stretching, and since warm muscles are more elastic, it is suggested that you do about five minutes of jogging in place before beginning to stretch.

One last thing for you to remember is that you should never overstretch.  If you stretch too much then you are actually stretching ligaments and no longer stretching muscles.  When you stretch ligaments you are increasing the likelihood of injury.
